The "New" Speakers at Our Christian Colleges

It's utterly amazing and very disheartening to see our once very Christ and cross-centered Christian colleges completely disintegrate into postmodern-liberal Protestant idealism. Here is just another one where the head of a college just does not get it. Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho invited a Dr. Jay McDaniel for a lecture to the university's students. My source (below), is saying this gentleman is a "Buddhist nd universalist sympathizer." I don't know if that's true but after reading the quote below, it sure sounds like it.

When asked by a student whether he believed that Jesus was “the way, the truth, and the life,” McDaniel stated that if Jesus had meant to say that He himself was the way, the truth, and the life, it would have been egocentric and arrogant of Jesus – He only meant to point people in the right direction – letting go of ego and grasping love. McDaniel stated also that Buddhist mindfulness (eastern meditation) is just as truth filled as doctrine and theology. He said there was an overemphasis in the church on doctrine calling it bibliolatry (idol worship of the Bible).

In a subsequent post, my source wrote the president of the unviersity. This was his reply,

Culture and belief systems that were once a world away, are now as near as an immigrant student, a next door neighbor or a link to a website. Consequently, it is the duty and responsibility of the university to make ourselves and our students aware of the world’s religions, sects and quests for God. This is necessary if we are to appropriately know how we as Christians, are to proclaim the gospel to Muslims, pantheists, or Buddhists (an area where Dr. McDaniel has done research).

My source then wisely points out something that these university "presidents" seem to be missing--why are they inviting these people? Why not get Christian professors to teach about "other religions and lifestyles and beliefs." That is an excellent question. I think the problem might be what Nietzshe called "the Spirit of the Age."
Except, that is something unbeleivers are supposed to have--not Christian presidents of Christian colleges, universities and seminaries.

Hey, Diane. I'm a new Christian and have decided to blog about it. I'm looking for like-minded bloggers to share with, and your site seems pretty cool. Sharp writing, nice Christian analysis - my cup of tea.

Hey Diane!

I am appalled to hear about this. The Bible is not just a book- it is the WORD of God and Jesus is the Word made flesh and come to the world. Confirms my belief that Head knowledge is NOTHING without the revelation of the Holy Spirit.

I used to want to attend Bible College when I was in the AOG church, but now I feel that I cannot agree with the legalism so many of them are teaching. Christ should be the centre of our worship and our understanding of both the OT and NT. My senior Pastor always tells us how Christ is in the OT concealed and the in the NT revealed.

It is amazing how when U know Jesus, the OT comes alive for you in a totally refreshing and rejuvenating way!

I recently met some Malaysian friends who are starting a church (2.5 mth old baby church) and since sharing my pastor's DVDs and notes on seeing Christ in the Hebrew alphabet/language with some friends, one of them (an Anglican pastor) has gone on to preach the Hebrew language with a Christ-centric focus vs a Mosaic-focus. =D Hallelujah! Lives are being changed here and a bible college apparently is making it compulsory for students taking the co-relating module, to watch that DVD for understanding and revelation!

It is so exciting to see the gospel of Grace come alive for people and help them truly know the heart of Christ and the heart of our Abba God all over again... ALL glory to Jesus!

FYI, New Creation Church member here. Just wanted to give you heads up that I am posting sermon notes from every Sunday on my blog at http://hungribunni.tumblr.com. My previous blog was http://weebears.blogspot.com =)

BTW I guess they call it Joseph Prince Ministry for practical sakes & it was chosen by the team helping to market his sermons/materials to the International crowd. If you listen to JP's sermons every week (and I am so blessed to do so every Sunday), u know this man's heart is for Christ alone and that he knows it is not about him. He is not a proud man and he boasts only of the LORD's grace and mercy! =)

Cheerios and Shalom!

Interesting article. I think we'll continue to see aspects of the New Age religion holding great influence over formerly Christian institutions.

That might be true for Northwest Nazarene University... but it seems to me that most Christian colleges are staying true to Christ. I'm a student at John Brown University, and it is definitely sticking to the motto, "Christ over all." I know the same is true for other colleges like Asbury, Biola, Taylor, and Colorado Christian - I have friends at all those colleges. And at JBU we do have classes about other religions, taught by Christian professors from a Christian perspective.

Just saying :)

By the way, this is my first time commenting on your blog, but I've been reading it and enjoying it for a little while now. :)
